Firechief Pizzeria Revisted @ Tuesday, August 01, 2017

Sunday 9th July

When it comes to pizza in town there's three franchises, a couple white cloth Italian places and then there's family friendly Firechief with yellow lighting... wow it's awful! If you want to get decent photo do lunch.

We're been here before and it was good so we returned for a birthday dinner.

Polenta chips, gorgonzola aioli $9

These were fairly bland, the cheesey dip helped a little.
They're absolutely nothing like real chips, skip these.

Campagnola (Wood Fire) $18

Confit kipfler potatoes, fior di latte, Italian sausage, tomato sugo, shaved parmesan

A crispy thin tomato based with peppered sausage, cheese flakes and potato slices.
I quite liked it, wasn't too dry though not cheesy as we might have indulged in cheesy pizzas too much just yesterday. Just the right amount of toppings, though I would have liked to add basil and bocancini. It was more burnt than last time.

Penne Ragu $18

Melt in your mouth beef with carrot and celery almost in a soup? A lighter pasta dish. Needs lemon and more cheese, more toppings other than beef to pasta ratio.

Farro Salad $16
Nutty faro, cauliflower, avocado, quinoa, green beans, cherry tomato, coriander vinaigrette

Unremarkable. It lacked a dressing other than basic lemon. Such a disappointment as we've had salads at Firechief before and they were amazing.

Fettucine carbonara $24

Pancetta, free range egg, confit garlic, cracked black pepper and shaved parmesan

A creamy classic, ordinary. Expensive at $24!

Chicken Risotto $22

Lemony herbed chicken. The herbs were added as a garnish though. The chicken was bland. Could be improved, mushrooms would be nice. This platter is huge by the way, serves two.

Dinner for Four

Tiramisu $12 & Gelato - Three Scoops $8

Meanwhile the tiramisu was more cake than cream and quite small... Gelato, with five flavours to choose from this was a challenge! Choc, strawberry, mango were our final picks. Blue ribbon choc, strawberry froyo froyo style. Serving size was standard.

Service wasn't too slow and friendly. Unlike company, which likes to complain...

Overall it was average. We probably won't be back, the yellow no atmosphere lighting isn't helping really. Save your money and book a table at Mother Dough over in the next town instead.
