Local Eats - Sunday Brunch @ Heritage Wall @ Monday, October 16, 2017 Sunday 27th August Since we left Camberwell in Sept/Oct 2016 it has become brunchy. Any time that we leave does so, but only when we leave. We moved to Hawthorn and as we were leaving Rustica opened up. Located on the main street, a great location with the 72 tram and Camberwell express train a block away, is Heritage Wall. Extremely minimalistic deco a stark contrast to the tea cafe that used to be there. It's always weird going to a familiar location but what you knew is no longer there. I feel that the new place will always be compared to the old. Can you believe I never took pictures back when it was 'Cuppa Cha'? It was because this was the place that work hosted weekly meetings.
Sarah had a Chia Latte
Freshly squeezed orange juice. There weren't any milkshakes on the menu...
Cured Trout with pumpkin & sweet potato mash, nuts & herbs, whipped avocado
mint, dill & fennel salad, grilled ciabatta, poached egg & pine nut crumb. $20
with mushrooms on the side - literally.
Sarah had the trout and said "It was really nice! Only criticism was I thought there would be more trout as it was listed as a trout dish! [Valid point, but it is brunch]. I don't know what the crumbly stuff was [pine nut crumb] but that was a nice contrast to the pumpkin and avocado. Also the bread was really nice. Don't know how to explain the trout, it seemed really fresh though."
Cumin Roasted Heirloom Carrots $19
Roasted beetroot, honey roasted pumpkin, chickpea hummus, herby tahini yoghurt,
fennel & mint salad, pomegranate feta, pistachio crumb, grilled bread and poached egg
The phone is for size comparison.
There are at least 12 ingredients on this platter like dish though it feels more like 20! And serve two, it was huge and I couldn't finish it. A creation of art full of flavours and textures. Though not all consistently cooked some more raw than others. While the deco is a stark contrast to the tea cafe that used to be there. The food was very good, so many elements. It was as if the venue was a paint palette and all the focus was on the food. Service was very friendly. |
