Melbourne Night Noodle Markets 2017 @ Monday, November 05, 2018

November 2017

November brings us the annual 'Night Noodle Markets'! With different lanterns most years and prime estate at the top of the hill.

MR MIYAGI $15 - Peking duck taco Peking duck, sushi rice,
spring onion, cucumber, kim chi, hoisin plum sauce in a nori taco shell

Hard to eat without a knife and fork // wet wipes. As usual the duck is on top and rice under it, because of the holder you'd eat top down rather than side on, so you'd eat all the duck then rice. Though fortunately the sauce is throughout the taco. It's pretty good though hard to eat.

GELATO MESSINA - Oh-No-Giri $10
 – Green tea gelato & pistachio mousse dipped in rice bubbles & white chocolate

Like everyone else said the white chocolate was very sweet (but not THAT sweet! though I am American), and so it overpowered the green tea ice cream which you have a bite of everything. The pistachio mousse was also weaken, and I couldn't identify that it was.

Kamikaze Katsu $12
– Deep fried gelato katsu sandwich! Sudachi lime gelato coated in red velvet cake
and panko crumbs sandwiched in fluffy white bread with yuzu sauce

Well the lime was strong and yuzu combo so good. But I didn't eat it straight away so it melted and went everywhere. The flavour combo was weird, deep fried and white bread, nope.

It's not every year that there are seats!

You'll want to be a VIP, especially when it rains.

HOY PINOY $13
Inihaw na manok – Chicken skewers in traditional soy glaze (gf. ef)

Smokey BBQed chicken, it was tiny, like 8 pieces of chicken on two skewers for $13... but so good. As we don't BBQ at home, this is an annual thing. Next year (as I write this) it goes up to $13.50.

SPANTHAI $13 - Fresh mango & sticky rice with coconut sauce (v)

A favourite dessert with ripe fresh Australian mango and coconuty sticky rice
with sesame. So good, we had this last year and came back for it.

As always we had a great time, trying new desserts and finding classics we love.
