Lovely Brunches @ Charisma Workshop @ Friday, March 08, 2019 Wednesday 21st March 2018 Charisma Workshop is located west quite further than we've ever ventured. Surrounded by scaffolding could this be how it ends? - We always joke that we'd meet an early demise being lured down a dark laneway with the promise of good food - It smells of oil out here... Famous for their beautiful rose cake, through eat club we finally had a day off for a long leisurely lunch and 55% off. A small cafe playing jazz with white welcoming atmosphere with just the right lighting. Not much natural light here. Arriving at 12.30-ish there weren't many sandwiches in the display as we seated ourselves. Small but fairly busy, almost everyone here is Chinese except one other guy... well it is surrounded by those city towers they live in. Is there table service? Nope. Come up and order when you're ready and pay at the start. So many drink options, all the coffees, teas, 5 green teas and 4 chocolate/mocha drinks!! Why isn't this place open for dinner?
Aoarashi Iced Matcha Latte 6.5
Not too bitter or sweet, or light it was just right
Confit Dug Leg - Mushroom, sweet potato and pumpkin mash,
coffee red wine reduction, tomato marshmallow, parmesan)
Soft, tender and succulent, not dry at all, it was amazing... worked well with the oregano mushrooms, pumpkin mash. Though the salad choice was questionable with bitter leaves... but I know that's just me, and there's a lovely balsamic vinegar on the side. 4/5
La Vie En Rose $10.50
Rose Bavarian Cream, Lychee Curd, Ruby Peach Jelly, Almond Sponge
Lychee rose peach, the peach was there but not too strong, it was so perfect... I love it! Service was very friendly. We'll be back.
A Friday in May // Lunch at Charisma
Mango and Raspberry Smoothies $6.60
Mango, raspberry, apple juice, Charisma vanilla ice-cream
Taste just as lovely as it sounds.
Ratatouille Baked Egg w/Polenta Chips (V) $16
Mix grilled vegetable and egg served with homemade Napoli sauce, haloumi, polenta chips
Hearty and homemade style, it was perfect. Not sure about the polenta fries which were very crispy and empty inside. I'd replace them with two slices of baguette instead. But that's just me, who thinks polenta is strange. Unconditional love - Layers of strawberry mousse, citrus cremeux & raspberry sponge cake May edition. Strawberry and citrus. Textures and all were good, but overall I prefer the lychee rose heart. But it was beautiful. Wed 6th June The day started with lunch at Charisma, the perfect 50/50 blend of c chocolate. The duck was delicious as always, though mash pumpkin wasn't as warm as the duck or close. We skipped the peppery flowers. Matcha cake pretty good, so perfectly smooth... Creme Brulee cake was medium strength and very good! Nothing like the artificial supermarket brulee flavoured/inspired stuff. Highly recommended. Luna had the jasmine cake, peer pressured into ordering it XD If you don't like cream cakes, perhaps get a cookie or cake cake instead.
On other visits we had other cakes and treats, always a delight to dine here.
Service was always very warm and welcoming. I regret not bringing more friend here, though brunchy hours is a challenge for us. So sad to hear Charisma went the way of groupon and nowadays is only doing cake deliveries. I'm certain it was the location that did it. As we love visiting this cafe, for lunch and for tea.
