Dentophobia @ Tuesday, August 05, 2014 The second week back was a series of up and downs, and it's all happening inside my head. It's not a case of we're all mad here, not yet, and we'll leave before that happens again. A relapse of last year won't be good. ![]()
The ring le beau pick. I really like it.
Tuesday 29th July Stressed and freaking out quite a bit. Today was a day of appointments. Dentist, we need 11 fillings! Holy crap! That's a new record, 11/28 teeth. I'm so freaked out that I'm packing my toothbrush + kit and bringing it out and about with me. Picked up my glasses, was feeling a bit sick w/o them. ![]() Stopped by an asian town to get lychee for another round of jelly! Shopped (planned) at Priceline, this time we checked all the prices and made sure everything was in the bag. The SA probably thinks I'm an accountant or banker. :P The worse thing to shop for, to me is shoes. I love looking at them, but the majority 95%-ish won't fit my special feet, so we have to go to certain stores. We're so lucky they still sell the one I bought last time, so we've ordered that for $180 on sale. Doesn't look like a sale to me, but they're great shoes. You can really feel the difference between old and new. Also discovered boots that fit me! Never having worn boots (knee high) before they feel restricted at the ankle, but they fit! We'll pass this time but one day I shall buy boots!
ECCO Saunter 65 Tall Boot $200
Was $400?! How much good boots worth? I have no idea.
Wednesday We've decided to drop a subject, can't survive 6hrs of her voice. Really hoping the other one will take it next year. Dropping a subject means more times for travel and homework. Taking an arts lvl1 class which is a version of one I've done, but with a more reflective approach. Morals vs ethics was today's topic. The samurai is in the same class :) he came to class smoking XD literally, being pretty tall it's amazing he didn't set off the smoke alarms and activate the sprinklers. He forgot to put it out, and somehow no one told him till he got to class. Marketing is getting easier, or rather I'm working really hard on ignoring/filtering out the "hey" which two others said are actually "kay"s. It just comes out after every few sentences! I counted over 50 times in 45 minutes! Surely she can't be conscious that she's doing this, if she is she's a great actor, no one would remember to keep it up. Consumer behaviour we always enjoy, though hope to do something more hands on. What if we tazzer her each time she says it? Through conditioning she can unlearn that behaviour. So I'm meant to brush my teeth 30mins after I eat each time - which means no more snacking... struggling with this. Today we did brush my teeth after breakfast. Still totally freaking out, this is going to become an OCD thing. On the way home someone asked me if I was ok, that was nice of him. I'm just too tired to function. That and I look depressed when I think. Thursday ![]() Struggling with photography, we're going too fast and with no written notes. Shall read the book and try this on my own. To the library! It was bright, sunny but windy before, but by the time I left the library it was dark and rainy, still windy. Freezing. We started some work, but got in too deep and got lost. ![]() Shopping with Lily. First stop was Mimco, for their 'Intergalactic Event', much much smaller than expected. It was pretty much two models (who were nice, the general rule being models are not nice) with sparkling water and candy. Why do people like sparkling water? Tastes like panadol + water to me. :( Would be different if it had flavour though. Next we went to Roll'd, which failed. T&C not clearly stated on the website! Lunch only. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
I love sushi trains! Though there are cheaper ones around I'd like to try.
![]()
We bought shoes! I reordered the usual. :P $180 on sale.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Friday ![]()
Made brunch, not sure if it was on Friday... no glitter was harmed in the process.
The glitter is for the dollhouse, that or I may make a charm bracelet from it.
![]() We saw 'Strictly Ballroom' which was entertaining, though it was like set in a small town where everyone's life evolved around ballroom dancing. On other days... ![]()
We had a tuna bun from BonBons, dislike.
![]() ![]()
What do they need all the information?!
![]()
How do we know this actually works? I have a sticker over my front camera.
![]()
Don't see this happening...
![]()
Just checking out sushi at Safeway.
![]() Believe it or not I have never actually seen Sleeping Beauty, even though she's my favourite princess/fairytale. Being the one that le beau says "if someone breaks in I kinda expect you to protect me, as you're in the NRL" I am no damsel in distress, though love the idea of him saving me. ![]() Does anyone else find the name of the dead girl in PLLs interesting? In Desperate Housewives Beth Young is quite a fragile characters by nature, and she ends up dead. And in PLLs they find her body and she's 16/17 with the same name, and described as a fragile patient.
How was your week?
Open House Melbourne - Como House @ Sunday, August 03, 2014 ![]() Open House Melbourne (OHM) is an event held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia that showcases many of the city's buildings to the public. This annual event is held on the last weekend in July since 2008. They provide the public a free and rare opportunity to discover a hidden wealth of architectural, engineering and historic buildings nestled around the city. Well known buildings not usually open to the public are open for free public tours. There will be long lines at the most popular places, close to the city. ![]()
Where we went.
![]() Wasn't feeling great so we just went to Como House in South Yarra, it was busy so I didn't get pictures of the kitchen, and then got distracted so I completely forgot. ![]()
Built in 1847, it has been revised and added to a few times.
![]()
A Sitting Room - There were many of these.
![]()
Another sitting area, and dinning? Surely not set up for a family of 11?
Though in the end there were three left.
![]() ![]()
The New Ballroom - Why I didn't ask le beau to dance idk. The room to right was the boys' room with a pool table and paddles (canoe?) and other manly things in there. There was a box piano. A what? It's a cross between a harpsicord and harp, with the harp lying on the side inside the box. Le beau recognized it while I only knew what it was by reading the 'Do not play this unless you are Mozart sign'. :P
![]()
Upstairs we go!
![]() Door on the left leads up to the tower, unfortunately it's closed cause it's not safe to go up there. First room on the right was Freddy's Room (Freddy is a boy, only now do people also use it as a girl's name, like Charlie). I would like to add some painting to these room, as it did look a bit empty, with potential. ![]()
Susan's Room - If you look very closely (no not in the picture) she's engraved her name on the window with her mother's diamond ring. As it's stronger than glass. And then her brother engraved something under her name. You have to be there to see it though.

One bathroom for a family of 11, how did they survive?
![]() The balcony only accessible from the master bedroom, I'm starting to think all the chairs at this place match! We think the bed might be a single but wider. Missing modern beds which are huge. Someone suggested people were small back then. ![]() Check out this amazing wardrobe. Behind it you can see the room divider, this room and the bedroom next to it, together was the ballroom for the 3rd family, the Browns. The 4th and final, the Armytages decided to create one downstairs (perhaps so that guests were less likely to go exploring which looking for the bathroom). ![]()
Should one panel be green instead of blue?
The fours colours are the basic house colours.
![]()
The Crest - We think it's something with a rodent like face, arms and seas monster/tree legs.
![]() To the right of the master bedroom is Laura's room, she was one of the 3 sisters to last live in the house. In the last years she lived in the room, and didn't leave it. ![]() A room that seems like it should have been a hallway, was the nanny's, later governess's and then finally Laura's nurse. It was in-between the master bedroom and children's down the hallway (not the door in the picture) behind me was a hallway (picture below) that lead to the children's rooms. - Info about the House + People - I wonder what happened to the family in the end. By now most would be dead (old age) but I would like to read more about their adventures, and what happened in the end. e.g. In the 'Young Victoria' and 'BBC Tudors' after the end there's info on what happened next, the kids they had, what they went on to me (or rule). ![]() Self-guided tours, I suppose if there's lots of signs with ok it would be good. Not in this case but the house was still pretty and there were tour guides floating around. We'll be back for a full tour, though won't get pictures again. I'm suprized by who good the pictures are, especially as it is dark inside. While we were there, there was a kid's party going on. Oh wow, I knew people rented places/things for kid's parties but have never seen it. I love styling them. These parties cost thousands and are a compretition with other parents really. Got to outdo yourself and everyone each year. I prefer just to spend that 5k or so redecorating or something. Upcoming tour dates...
Ticket prices and more info can be found here.
Have you been to Como House? Did you go to Open House Weekend?
Flinders Keepers - Melbourne AW 2014 @ Friday, August 01, 2014 ![]() Tonight we went to the Unleash Creative Draw! Pilgrim workshop at the Finders Keepers AW14 Melbourne Market, which was fun. Tickets were $60, which is not worth it. They're worth $10-20 really. Though Lily says she can do something similar with her class, maybe grade 4. ![]()
I like the sprinkles, geometric garland and the foil tinsel-ish thing.
We did the workshop with Pilgram (that is actually her real name) where we traced and cut out templates to create pictures. So many colours... hence I was lost. Next time I'd like to do a red/bk/white one. We picked the kioshi doll which was the easiest one. :)

The Event - Not open on Sunday?
![]() Jas lined up for 40mins to get it. I miss my staff pass. The line was much longer than Comic-Con and curved around the centerpiece twice and the end of the line was the car park area. They were letting people in batches at a time. ![]() We spent another 20mins lining up to order dinner and then 40mins to get it. Fortunately there were no more lines after that. Cold cheese bagels aren't nice, but there wasn't anything I actually really liked offered that night. One van sold lemonade but they had long lines. There was a van for African food though no one was lining up there, so we were iffy about trying something new. Unfortunately no one sold spring rolls - which I love. There was a few food trucks (no dessert though), a cupcake stand and some homemade treats stalls, and we got some cotton candy. Rose and coconut were the best, and we also got lemonade which wasn't as good as expected. ![]() ![]()
I love the yarn deco going on and the tinsels. Great bg for a photo booth.
![]() A creative way to present organic chocolate. Cotton candy! We bought a few of those, and was tempted to get marshmallows too, but then remembered they're at Thomas Dux too and at the same price. ![]()
This would look great on Emily, though it's not her style.
![]()
Lovely repurposed ties from 'Little August', I once made one, we got another that I'm "working on" too, which would great if I finished it soon, as they're great with shirts and winter. In summer there's so many nice flowing blouse-y tops it's hard to wear shirts. Here's the one I did finish, for Emily, who I don't think actually like it.
![]()
Yes I do want a bobbin brooch! We got one in emerald green.
![]() ![]() I love Blank and wooden beads though $15 is $$$ for plain beads. We need to find a supplier, the cheapest I've found is $1 each for plain unpainted beads. Anyone found a supplier? I'm only going to make them for myself and one friend (a volunteer, SIL). ![]() ![]()
$30 for 50 Beads, delivered on etsy. Anyone want to split it?
![]() ![]()
Other craft supplies I'm loving. Washi tape & vials for potions.
![]()
I'd love one of these for our wedding, as a gift, a custom one of us.
![]()
Bunny! Can't wait to get our own place and have artwork like this framed on the walls.
![]() ![]()
I do like this display, there's something of an old world feel about it for me.
![]()
Brooches, pendents and bowties.

Knitting Brooches $15 - Kitty Came Home
Aren't these cute?
![]()
On the way home, for others at 10.30pm the night was just starting.
The event itself wasn't good enough to justify lining up for that long. Not worth it. It went from 6pm to 10pm tonight, an hour to get in, another for food and a 2hr workshop and you don't have much time to explore. Should have opened at 4pm. I've always wanted to go to Flinders Keepers though found this experience disappointing. Meanwhile le beau & co were with Mahler on opening night, I wanted to go though we already had workshop tickets. |
