Wednesday Night @ Lona, Spanish Fusion Tapas (St Kilda) @ Saturday, November 25, 2017 Wednesday 11th October One night we decided to go to St Kilda for dinner and went to Dinner at Lona, Spanish Fusion Tapas, lured by the 50% offer. Lona's very easy to get to and is next to that place with the skull dessert and close to McD. On a summer's evening drinks out here would be nice while waiting for a table - if it weren't for the smokers. By the time jas got there it was dark, he was late, and it was raining hard.
Inside it's very busy and noisy, there's a loud band. It's Wednesday...
Croquetas (3pcs) $10
Queso iberico (cheese), creamed leek, smoked aoili
Hot balls of cheese, what's not not to love.
It's fully booked tonight with the 50% off offer.
Chips $8 - Rustic thick cut chips, lightly salted, habanero aioli
These taste as expected.
Chicken Tacos (2) $15
Southern style chicken, peri peri, spring onion, shredded lettuce, salsa
I'm telling you this so called 'southern style chicken' is a chicken finger - this is not real chicken. As someone who grew up on frozen meals, this isn't something I'd expected at a restraint - unless it was on the kids' menu.
Lamb Ribs (4pcs) $16
Flinders Island salt grass lamb ribs, twice cooked, cumin salt, minted yoghurt
The salt was very salty XD so don't dip too much, juicy and succulent these were the highlight of tonight's dinner and jas wanted seconds. They really need to find a smaller board for serving this :P
Fish Tacos (2) $16
Lightly crumbed barramundi fillets, chipotle, lime, coriander, salsa
These were nice.
Atun Anchoas Corn Chip (2) $4
Smoked tuna, anchovies, tomato, radish, tumaca
Caramel Tart//Dulce De Leche $10
Shortcrust pastry, caramel and diced fresh fruit
Not single friendly, there's a bar, restaurant and garden (cement garden). Back of the restaurant is a wind tunnel from the back to kitchen, and it smells like oil. The food was pretty good, very good at $20pp for what we had tonight. Service was friendly but slow, and the live music (on a Wednesday) was too loud. By the time we left, around 9.30pm it felt like a Friday night at the bar. He'll be back with the boys, but I won't be. |
