One Week. Eight Eats. @ Thursday, January 26, 2017

Monday 9th January

The crowd you see is at the end of the line which goes around the entire block.
Recovering from a camp out we lost half the week, turns out I don't have the health for it.

Lunch at Ya Souv in Glenferrie. First day back so half the dessert menu was out. Service fairly average, the blonde SA didn't like me. The manager was friendly.

Had the 'ya mena' with caramelized onions, lamb, parsley, chips and. .. the lamb was juicy. Meat overload for me. Same price as Jimmy Grants but bigger. A meat fest I need a salad to go with it!

We didn't get to decorate our caps, so I didn't go. It's not exactly an event for being alone. So many ideas and only one head... the first three are my favourites.

Back to the city, to pick up my certificate, turns out you don't get a gold sticker or a gold foil cylinder - unless you went to the ceremony. No regrets other than the $4 we paid to scan it before crumpling it in the bag. Not particularly proud of it. Like an artist you really didn't need a degree to be one. Damn, well it cost me 60k.

We took the wrong train and was so lost... what is this industrial wasteland?! At the other end we couldn't get out as the ticket had timed out... it does that after 2hrs.

Met the agent, my favourite and regular has been replaced NOOOOOO!!! The new guy is more, well forceful. No you don't need to study more, what you need to a job - one that pays. Lets look at market research. Is now a horrendously bad time to mention I am not a people person and am best suited to working alone?

Back to the city for a nap at the office and dessert.

A visit to 'Milk Cow' which has popped up on main street during the festive season hence over shadowed. We had the 'Santorini' with a huge cloud of blueberry fairy floss. It reminds me of an Alice in Wonderland creation, the caterpillar's cloud. I like how unlike other places the fairy floss didn't detract from main feature, the ice cream.

Wednesday

Half an hour naps, or naps at all are a really bad idea. Down at 10am, up at 4.30pm?!! No naps tomorrow. We're still recovering from the 11hrs of Sunday/Monday. And my butt still hurts from sitting on the ground.

Dinner at Pepper Lunch

For mains we had the beef ribs $25 with what the description says brown sauce, it's gravy. Soft and juicy inside and crispy on top. It was beautiful and great quality as it reminded me of the beef belly we had at a hatted restaurant earlier this month.

Matt Sinclair's Ultimate Chicken Parma Slider
Picked up a cute but tall slider on the way home.

Thursday

We spent the afternoon creating lady finger lamington whoopie pies, quite good we were lucky and the suggested baking time was just right! Made too much creme though, and someone didn't know how to separate eggs so we lost two there. :( No we didn't have extras.

Dinner on the Wharf at Bangpop in the Moonlight. It was beautiful, I had a great time.

Friday

Prawn Tacos from Richmond Oysters

Creamy Soda from the Pancake Parlour

We love flamingos!

Saturday

Brickvention Lego Convention.

Everything was awesome!! Picture coming soon. I used the camera with the wrong lens and half the pictures aren't in focus, the others are blurry *sigh*. Fortunately it was the right lens for landscape. We used to go for fortnightly picnics with le beau, I do miss those.

Sunday

Coming from another century people make me feel uncomfortable by being themselves. I also don't approve of gender neutral bathrooms, other than the disabled ones of course. Midsummer had girl/boys ones in pink/blue which was different, normally they're all blue, just with different signs. I've never seen the pink ones anywhere before... Where do they even come from?

Loving this background, very cheap to make with plastic table clothes and foil cello'.

We stopped by Midsumma, but it was too crowded with people picnicing with friends, the early birds in the shade with picnic rugs and eskies. More and more I feel that it's not socially acceptable to be alone.

There were a few generic food trucks, nothing of interest other than Toastie! Such a simple but delicious idea. Profits are high here as they're so cheap to make. No turkey, brie and cranberry jam though. It was good and tastes as expected.

First it was polaroid-like shots, then a gif, now it's a 360 video in slow motion.

Cookies n' Cream Shake $7

Up to the main street we stopped by Milkcow for a milkshake ($7), cookies and cream. Delicious! Tastes just like sweetened whipped cream :P.

Up to Queen Street Rescue for dinner. A chicken salad, huge and delicious!

How was your week? What did you get up to?

Birthday Dinner @ The Grand, Richmond @ Wednesday, January 25, 2017

Thursday 6th January

Concluding lies my birthday week was the annual dinner at the hatted 'Grand' in Richmond. A six course menu $90 that's very accommodating to allergies and co. Great location just a couple blocks away from Burnley Station.

Bags were taken into cloaking on arrival as we were ushered into the white clothed dinning room. As I don't know much about fine dinning, and jas isn't much of a sharer we won't say much other than at the end. Though why are the plates so big and heavy?

Bread & Butter, Olives

Cucumber, Cold Seared Swordfish, Onion & Peas

Calamari, char grilled with Anchovies, Capers and Lemon
Whoops ate a piece before taking the picture...

Delicious Gnocchi with Caramelized Butter & Crispy Sage

All perfect and crispy, unlike when I do it. Dead black leaf drowning in oil.

Huge Creamy King Prawns with Asparagus and a Basil, Tomato, Onion Salad

Beef Short Rib. Fatty and Soft. Ox Tongue. Cabbage. Bitter. Split Peas

\Cinnamon Donut with Custard. Caramel Ice Cream

Honey Saffron, Honeycomb & Mint buds.

Everything was delicious though we were surprised to see a couple dishes we had last time we were here, last year this time. My favourite dish was the gnocchi and calamari.

Waiting time between dishes were a bit long, but it was alright.
If you go alone then bring a book.

As it was my birthday I got candles! Thankfully no one sung, though the waiter said you're meant to kiss the closest boy. Nope. Jas likes boys, and I don't like kissing *the crowd gasps!*. And so the waiter offered his cheek. Awks. Please don't touch me.

Service was very friendly, though I was touched! Our main waiter kept touching my arm/back every time he served us. I don't like being touched... by anyone. *sigh* He was friendly and didn't act all rejected though when he was denied a peck. I haven't had to endure this much physical contact out of the [dance] studio!

$9 Lunch @ Naked for Satan @ Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Wednesday 4th January

We finally did it! Naked for Satan has been on the list for years, so long that the lunch menu is now more like a tapas menu, still $9 though and now it goes till 4pm! Was 2pm last we checked, years ago.

This one's my favourite.

Naked in the Sky. Mainly outdoors. It's summer 30+ everyday here. The heat combined with smoking, french cheese made me feel very sick. Luckily we got a spot at the waiting table inside, the only table inside.

The view outside was nice, it would be nicer in winter :P You can look up away from the city or towards and beyond. We spotted the museum, with its lovely gardens.

There was an indoor dinning area, but it wasn't open when we were there.
Its open 12pm-2pm, we got there between 3-4pm.

There's no water (???) or table service upstairs.

Weekday lunches AND Sunday evening from 6pm everything is $9. But yeah they're all tapas style things, not meal food. Here's the menu. Damn I didn't see that cheese menu on the back, looks like we'll be back! Oh and there are prices on the menu at the place.

Bio guy had no interest in anything on the menu, as he prefers simple meal food. He eats the same thing every day and doesn't eat out. I'm a bad influence :P

Charcuterie Board: $28-ish
Jamon Iberico De Bellota, Free Range Acorn Fed Ham 20g
Saucisson, Pork Sausage 20g  + Capocollo, Cured Pork 20g

Baked Camembert - Truffle Paste, Chestnuts, Ciabatta

This was the highlight of the meal! All that was missing was quince jelly for a sweet contrast to the creamy cheese. The truffle paste was what made it amazing, not only could you see it, but you could taste it too!

Mushroom Parfait, Poached Pear,
Caperberries, Smoked Almonds & Radish

The pear wasn't sweet? Caperberries are young olives, salted, with no pit. The mushroom parfait was a bit like a spread in texture with a jelly layer on top. It was fairly average and I felt that this platter was a collection of things in the fridge/pantry rather than something that complimented the other ingredients on the board.

Everything was served with toasted bread, quite crunchy I would have preferred something like rustica's bread to go with it all. As it was a bit too crunchy for my teeth.

Overall it was good, though the intention is to lure with cheap food for drinks. The only thing we tried and would recommend is the Camembert - but not on the smoking hot rooftop. Cheese and hot weather don't mix!

We'll be returning for the cheese platter when in town, though won't rush back or travel just to dine here. Add shopping at Clear It Online Offline to the list and perhaps N2, though we haven't heard anything about them for some time.

Have you lunched at Naked in the Sky?

First Week of 2017 @ Monday, January 23, 2017

Monday 2nd Jan 2017

I feel so empty. Not hungry. Not bored. Empty. I drew something instead of excelling it.

Lucy and George have yet to come over and so it's just me. So quiet, I'm both alone and lonely. Its been four days in solitary. I have the internet and books but it's not the same without my furry friends.

RIP George - The show won't be the same without you.

Meanwhile izzy has just found out she had brain issues, and George is fading out. He didn't seem well planned after leaving Callie. Shepard's lost his optimism after killing/losing his latest patient married to Jerimiah (royal pains, he was also a dr in just like heaven).
Today we took the camera out of the box and took it on a trip to the city, for a very good pizza and average donut (regret) before taking the 11pm home. Home is wherever they are, but it's just me.

Gamberi - Local prawns, lemon ricotta, chilli, rocket

We had the prawn pizza tonight. Prawns with ricotta sprinkled with lemon juice! Seafood goes very well with lemon, why? The pizza was big and I could only eat half, though last time the waiter was -O.o that we ordered just one to share. Meanwhile mom and dad on date night had one each.

Service is overall good, though it really depends on who you get. The Swedish girl was great! Discussions on driving on the wrong side of the road XD

Tuesday

Time management is a major goal for 2017. We got to the city, stopped by Typo then had to rush back for an appointment. 15mins in the city, we had more than one thing to do...

I think we went home then stopped by Kmart on the way back. Loving the organization range! We bought a three tier rack and corner storage thing.

Wednesday

Lunch @ Naked for Satan

Thursday

Loving planners! One day goals, not at the moment as I need the space.

We finally bought the diary! Needing a change we bought the blue leather with silver accents instead of plastic covered one. Service was tolerable, the SA doesn't like me, and I was just going in and out. There is a pattern though, girls don't like me, and neither do boys who like other boys (the ones with the voice).

Hokey Pokey @ Baskin Robbins

What regret looks like - fighting kids, hot replacement buses (I hear air but don't feel it) and sweat running down your front and back, when you've just showered! Also walking from the station in 30 degrees heat. No uber because it'll cost double, as unlike taxis don't wait. Booking fee x2, that and it was close to the station anyway - but not in this heat.

At the home HQ stores we picked up a house warming gift for jas, literally house warming XD a toaster. Also bought some xmas deco for headpieces and $5 Nutcracker Snow Globes! They also have the music box thing.

Drinks/ice cream with Andy at the Pancake Parlour. Two-three scoops of vanilla ice cream with salted caramel sauce (much sweeter than Josephine's) and honeycomb which got all hard and stuck to my teeth! I prefer small shards or popping candy. Andy had the choc fudge with a stale waffle.

Concluding (lies) my birthday week was the annual dinner at the hatted 'Grand' in Richmond. A six course menu $90 that's very accommodating to allergies and co.

Here Come the Habibs - We finished the first season in 6hrs, it was hilarious!

Sunday

We got to the theatre at 12.45am. Tickets released at 10am. The line is about 140 long and goes around the corner, we're outside the bins fortunately they don't smell.

Forgot to bring a picnic rug, as chairs were in storage. Camping chairs, a sleeping bag and camp table to recommended. No #1 Tip - Locate the closest bathroom, here it's the 24hr burger king. Also don't go wandering around the city, it's not safe.

7am - The lines moves as the front is snaked. It's quite impressive how many people bought chairs.

8am - With daylight and sunlight comes flies!! So many flies trying to get into my eyes! Add bug spray to the list of essentials.

11.30am - We stood up at 10am only to move at a snails pace. By 11.30 we got the tickets! The first 10 people received merchandise.

We made it! After 11hrs! And there was coffee and donuts.

How was your week?
